The Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS) was established to encourage quality standards for beverage service in hotels and restaurants.

The first Master Sommelier examination was held in London, in the United Kingdom in 1969.

By 1977 the Court Of Master Sommeliers was established and has since become the premier examining body for Sommeliers worldwide.
Courses are now conducted regularly throughout Europe, Oceania, Asia and the Americas.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Wine Distribution and Sales
This course is particularly good for those who are working in Wine Distribution and Sales, Wine Shops, and the Wine Division in Supermarkets.
Hospitality and Food and Beverage Institutions
Professionals who are teaching in the Hospitality and Food and Beverage Institutions will also benefit from learning the methods and styles of how the Masters conduct their training and tasting.
Working Experience & Wine Knowledge Requirements
- You should have at least 2 years of working experience in Wine Sales or Wine Service in Hotel, Restaurant & Bar
- It is highly recommended that the applicants come with a decent wine knowledge and already have experience serving wines in hospitality establishments.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Our instructors are dedicated, enthusiastic professionals who are eager to provide you with top-notch knowledge of wine.
+ Over his 20 years in the wine business, Ronan Sayburn MS has worked with wine merchant OW Loeb, was sommelier at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Pied à Terre, and was executive head sommelier for the Gordon Ramsay restaurant group for eight years.
+ First a DWWA judge in 2004, he was also the director of wines and spirits for the Hotel du Vin group as well as head of wines for the prestigious Dorchester Collection UK.
+ A previous winner of the UK Sommelier of the Year competition, and ex-head of wine at 67 Pall Mall in London, at present he is CEO for the Court of Master Sommeliers European chapter, and runs his own consultancy, RS Wine Academy, a consultancy specialising in managing private portfolios, wine events and wine training for the trade and public.
Ronan Sayburn MS
+ Edouard took his first Sommelier qualification in 2003, then honed his skills by working as a commis sommelier in Michelin-starred restaurants in his native France.
+ In the UK, he worked his way up to Sommelier and Head Sommelier at hotel groups such as Hotel du Vin and Malmaison and in 2005 took his Certified Sommelier Exam with the Court of Master Sommeliers Europe.
+ In 2008 he settled as Head Sommelier at two-Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park, working with chef Michael Caines, he soon achieved the status of Advanced Sommelier. In 2011, Edouard became a Master Sommelier and won the Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle cup, having scooped the highest scores within his peer group. At Gidleigh Park he managed a wine list of 1,300 bins.
Edouard Oger MS
+ Christopher Bates MS has spent over 15 years in all aspects of the hospitality industry. Christopher and his wife Isabel own and operate F.L.X. Hospitality & F.L.X. Winery.
+ Previously as General Manager & Executive Chef of Hotel Fauchère, Relais & Chateaux, Christopher oversaw the 16 room hotel and four restaurants. Prior to his time at the Hotel Fauchère, he spent four years at the Inn at Dos Brisas, Relais & Chateaux, where they won numerous honors such as Mobil/Forbes 5 Stars, Relais & Chateaux and Relais Grands Chefs.
+ In 2012 Christopher was named Best Young Sommelier in the World after winning Best Young Sommelier in America the previous year. He went on to win TopSomm 2013, before passing his Master Sommelier Exam in May 2013, making him the 199th person in the world to do so.
